EmailShield FAQ
Getting Started
Q. How does Eclipse EmailShield work?
- A. EmailShield filters each incoming email through six layers of protection, providing both anti-spam and anti-virus protection. This is all done off-site on our IronPort server. It means the service wraps a protective shield around your business systems, never allowing spam or infected mail to reach your own server. You'll be saying goodbye to your junk mail folder and freeing yourself up from sifting through spam for misdirected mail. EmailShield catches 99.4% of junk mail and has a 1 in 1 million false positive rate.
Q. What sort of office system do I need to run EmailShield?
- A. EmailShield will work on any SMTP mail server to protect you against viruses and spam. Mail servers include Small-Business-Servers, Exchange Servers and other mail servers like IMail, Lotus Notes, Mail Enable and Hosted Exim.
Q. How easy is it to set up EmailShield?
- A. It couldn't be faster or easier to get your business mail set up through EmailShield. We need you to do just two things to be up and running:
1) provide a list of email addresses you want to be protected.
2) make a small change to your MX record.
We can get your mail protected within 24 hours using EmailShield.
Features
Q. Can I customise the EmailShield service?
- A. EmailShield is completely customisable. It comes with your own portal control system which allows you to customise various areas. You'll have control over the level of spam filtering you require, which can be flexible and differ for each mailbox you add to the system. Through the portal you'll also be able to completely stop particular types of files coming into your mailbox too.
Q. Can I get my outbound mail scanned too?
- A. Customers with both EmailShield and a connection with an Eclipse-allocated IP address can also use the service to scan outbound mail. This stops the risk of your business sending out infected emails to your contacts, should a breach of security occur elsewhere. But don't worry if you are not an Eclipse connectivity customer and still need outbound mail scanning. We can add your provider IP addresses to the platform manually.
Q. How long does it take EmailShield to scan mail?
- A. Despite 6 layers of filtering, EmailShield is extremely fast at processing mail. The average time for mail to complete all six stages is around 3 seconds - often, it's much quicker than this. Speeds will be affected by demand and at busy times, it will take longer. However, at its slowest, EmailShield should still only take around 60 seconds to complete the filtering.
Q. How can I trust the EmailShield service?
- A. We don't just have one IronPort server providing our EmailShield service - we have six. These six servers are protected by a Cisco load balancer, itself part of a resilient pair, behind an equally resilient network link. That's why we're proud to say our IronPort servers have continuously provided us with 100% uptime over the past 3 years. Add to this, our 4 hour onsite support and 24/7 monitoring at Britain's best data storage facility, Global Switch - and you can be assured your EmailShield system will be totally reliable. We even do performance monitoring on the system by sending regular test emails to ensure you're getting an efficient service from EmailShield.
Q. How do I know EmailShield is right for me?
- A. EmailShield is supported using Cisco IronPort - the market-leading anti-virus, anti-spam solution. Cisco IronPort's Virus Outbreak Filters provide unrivalled protection - stopping and quarantining suspect mail before traditional anti-virus signatures are even issued. IronPort is so well regarded that it's currently the top performer in technology advisor Gartner's magic quadrant of secure email gateways.
