How long will it take?
Due to the number of different domain name registrars we are unfortunately unable to give an accurate lead time for transfers. We would recommend that you allow up to 14 working days for a transfer to complete, (not including DNS updates) to ensure that everything is completed fully.
How long do the DNS changes take?
DNS is the information that effects which host email and web requests go to. Once we make a request to modify the DNS to the registry, you must allow 24 – 48 hours for propagation. During this time some emails and web access requests may continue to be routed via your previous host’s servers. This is why it is important that you keep your account open with them until everything is moved over to us.
What happens to my email?
Please make sure that you set up any mail boxes and their settings to ensure that you are able to retrieve your email once the changes have happened. For help doing this please see the knowledge base or contact our Technical Support Team.
What happens to my website?
It is essential that you have a copy of your web site to upload to our servers once the transfer is complete. If you need help uploading your web site, please see the knowledge base. You need to ensure you have FTP enabled on your username. We can not upload your website for you, but our technical support team can help you if you have problems.
When will I start paying for my domain name?
Your invoice will be generated shortly after you create your order. Please ensure your transfer is completed promptly. We will not credit you for any period that you have been invoiced but the domain was not in our control.
Switching .com / .org / .net / .info / .biz
- Ask your current host to remove the registrar lock and provide you with the authorisation, DRK or EPP code
- You then need to email Customer@eclipse.net.uk asking us to start the transfer
- You current registrar (OpenSRS) will send you an asking you to confirm the transfer within 5 working days
- We'll then email your current host to confirm or, decline your transfer. If the email is confirmed, the transfer will continue immediately. If it is declined the transfer will fail. If the email is left, the transfer will continue of its own accord after 5 – 7 days
- Once the domain is fully in our control, we will email the Eclipse admin email address to advise that it has completed and ask for your permission to update the DNS. You must respond to this email for the DNS to be updated to Eclipse.
Switching .eu
- Email customer@eclipse.net.uk asking us to start the transfer
- You current registrar (OpenSRS) will send you an asking you to confirm the transfer within 14 working days
- Once the domain is fully in our control, we will email the technical contact for the domain to advise that it has completed and ask for your permission to update the DNS. You must respond to this email for the DNS to be updated to Eclipse
Switching .co.uk / .net.uk / .ltd.uk / .org.uk
- Please contact your current host and ask them to change the TAG to ECLIPSE
- Once we receive notification from Nominet that this has been done, we will email you to advise that it has completed and ask for your permission to update the DNS. You must respond to this email for the DNS to be updated to Eclipse
Switching .uk.com / .uk.net / .gb.com / .gb.net / .eu.com
- Ask your current registrar to provide you with the authorisation code for your domain
- You'll need to email this along with a request to transfer the domain to customer@eclipse.net.uk
- We'll send an email to your current host asking them to approve or decline the transfer within 5 days
- Once the domain is fully in our control, we will email the billing contact to advise that it has completed and ask for your permission to update the DNS. You must respond to this email for the DNS to be updated to Eclipse
Switching .gov.uk / .ac.uk
- Please contact Eclipse on 0845 1224 111 or email us at customer@eclipse.net.uk if you are interested in transferring this type of domain to us.
