SMEs 'might need external IT support'
Date: 8 June 2009
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the UK might be left behind in the economic downturn if they do not invest sufficiently in IT, a recent study suggests.
According to research by Ardent Solutions, one of the current business trends is that small companies are struggling with IT concerns because of budgetary issues, reports Computing magazine.
It was found that one-quarter of SMEs believe that failing to invest sufficiently in IT during the economic downturn has led to problems.
Ardent managing director Andrew Watkinson was quoted by the news provider as saying: "SMEs cannot afford to be left behind
Many have already made a move towards leveraging external IT expertise for support, maintenance, outsourcing and advice."
The study found that 19 per cent of SMEs polled had not invested in new technology in the last two or three years.
This comes after SharePointMagazine.net claimed that there is a shortage of SharePoint skills in the IT market at the moment.
